Photogenic DP8 Diffusion screen

I was wondering if anyone has ever used this on a Studiomax light and how well it diffuses the light?

thanks

I think you would find that this particular diffuser takes the edge off of the light, but it certainly doesn't replace a large diffusion device, like a large umbrella (shoot-through or reflected), large softbox or a wall (used as a reflector).

A relatively large device is needed to soften shadows, if that is your intent.

I have this tiny light stand that is only a foot or so tall and wanted to use one of my monolights as a kicker behind the subject. An umbrella is sweet as it diffuses the light like no bodys bidness....I guess a small strip bank would work . I just want to difuse the light enough to use it as a kicker for the BG...

A "kicker" light is normally used for the subject, similar to a rim light. Yes, this could work for that purpose.

If you mean a background light similar to a loose spot light to give a central glow to the background, it could also work for that, but a snoot or grid might work better. Sometimes barndoors will do. There's also a half-clamshell device that fits over the flash in a vertical orientation. It partly depends on the distance from the light to the background. Multiple devices would, of course, give tremendous flexibility.
