Bay Photo has proved to be very unreliable for me.... has anyone else had this issue? enclosed is the original file in sRGB and the two resulting prints with extremely off colors.... how is this in any way considered a professional printing lab.... I'm very concerned that my customers have been receiving very poor quality prints......

Hi Jesse that statement is not accurate. For a color corrected 4x6 and 8x10 SmugMug is actually less expensive than going directly through Bay Photo.

    SmugMug 4x6 Lustre color correction = $.38
Bay Photo 4x6 Lustre color correction = $.49

    SmugMug 8x10 Lustre color correction = $3.23
Bay Photo 8x10 Lustre color correction = $3.50

Just like any partnership we have contract pricing with our labs which may not be the same as their retail pricing to you. Yes some of the prices through us are more but the most popular sizes, 4x6, 5x7 and 8x10 are all less expensive through us rather than ordering directly through Bay Photo.

large print sizes are cheaper if you just order through Bay Photo, but judging from the poor print quality I doubt you'd want to anyway...this is two orders of the same print I recently received..... look good to you?

    Hiya Jesse,

Could you contact us at help@smugmug.com with the order number information and a link to the image? We'll certainly help investigate this. :)

Yes indeed. I'd like to see the order# and then I can look at the original file, and also how the file was printed (True Color or with Color Correction). Thanks.

I also merged in your post from another thread.
I've printed 100s of landscapes from Bay Photo. I have some hanging in my studio that are 8' wide. We have them all over our SmugMuseum at HQ. There's no disputing the quality. Once we get the details from you, we'll be back and we'll probably reprint that image for you on us - just to prove it.

I need the order #. Thanks.

Jesse, I see order # 2710566 but your post shows two versions of this print. Was there another order# as well?

the top image is an order I received in February of 2011.. I'll look for the order number, but it wasn't until I put them side by side that I realized how blue/green the tint was on the first one compared to the over red toned second print...

The bottom, most recent print looks very similar to the image on your site, to my eyes. Is that what you're seeing too, or are they both way off?

HI Jesse, I'm going to have Larry, who founded Bay Photo, and knows more about printing than probably anyone on this planet, to have a close look at this. I'm viewing the files from both orders, and neither should print the way your photo of the two side-by-side look. Have no fear, we're gonna redo BOTH for you, and they're going to be perfect. Give me a day or so to converse on this with Larry.

    Thanks,

For what it's worth and in response to the OP's question about anyone else having had problems with Bay Photo quality in the past.......I can certainly say that I have had my share of problems with both very similar color issues as well as scratches and unrounded corners on metal prints in the past. On each occasion, the problem did get resolved to my satisfaction but when it comes to me or my customers ordering metal prints from Bay, I am holding my breathe in hoping the product turns out right. I know they are reputable and stand behind their work, turning out a multitude of very high quality work. But my personal experiences have unfortunately fallen below my expectations with regard to metal prints. Even this week I have a client dealing with a problem (scratch) on a metal print she ordered over the holidays. They are reprinting that one as we speak.
