This is interesting news. I have had admiration for the latest version of Bibble despite its limitations and Corel's PaintShopPro is a highly developed product with a large customer base.

Some of the less dominant photoediting software have possessed gems of expertise, creativity and usefulness which have been unknown to many photographers. Another example besides Bibble was LightZone, which is also now attracting new interest for its uniqueness and fit with the needs of photographers specifically. The Bibble team is now working for Corel, and the LightZone developers are now working for Adobe.

This looks interesting, it sounded like they were offering the upgrade price for users of Lightroom as well? I may test the trial out of Aftershot Pro just to see what it's like.

*edit* It does appear you can when you click on the "Am I eligible for an upgrade?" you can see Lightroom and Aperture are on there. That's pretty cool.

My hopes are that Corel is panning to upgrade PaintShopPro and integrating a decent RAW front end and compete with PS (almost) head-to-head, and then hopefully offer PSP in a MAC version, in which they have been always been slacking.

Quick Correction, Neill: the Lightzone developer is working on Apple Iphone applications. Not Adobe.

EDIT: And the original Bibble creator is now working for Microsoft, on non-imaging related things.

Ah yes, thanks Mark! I did have a moment of doubt about what I wrote, Adobe or Apple! Confusing that they both begin with "A"!mwink.gif

Previous Bibble purchasers can also upgrade for $20, or free if purchased in last 120 days, according to an email I got from Bibblelabs.

PSP users get AfterShot Pro for $49 until 1/15/12. I just bought a copy, waiting for my new computer to come before loading it.

Apparently it supports DNG natively out of certain bodies (eg M9). It doesn't support ACR (etc) DNG. Yet.

It's been a while since I have used Bibble, but if I remember correctly it never supported generic DNG, only dng files that were produced directly by certain cameras. I remember that on their user forum there were requests for generic DNG support but can't remember the reasons for not supporting it.

Has Corel/Bibble said something about adding support for generic DNG files?

I would think that supporting generic DNG in a product like Bibble would not be all that easy. Although the format is published they don't know how the conversion from raw to dng is being done, like Adobe does. I'm sure it's possible, I just don't think it's a walk in the park, that's all.

I think it would be a lot of work to insure that you got the same results with Bibble whether you processed the dng or raw version of an image.

There is a saying in software "A thing on a thing is not the same as the thing." I think it was Phillipe Kahn (who started Borland, if you remember them) who first said this.

Bibblelabs has always been adamant about not supporting (or being able to support) converted DNGs. This may or may not change under Corel's leadership.

Don't know on that it just lists DNG under file formats. Oh well taking it off my computer now.
