Hi you'll,

A friend and fellow shooter Gordon (the man who sold me my 500mm) was scheduled to fly in yesterday from chilly PA and do some shooting with me. Alas on the day before his flight he took ill and couldn't make it.

I had arranged for the whole gang to turn out for Gordon

This red shouldered hawk got so excited he fell off his perch
41852358-L.jpg

These guys were handling the food for the party
41852376-L.jpg

41852359-L.jpg

you can see the excitement in the face of this soft shelled turtle
41852362-L.jpg

snowy egrets were flying in from near and far
41852371-L.jpg

this ibis was getting all duded up
41852366-L.jpg

We even arranged for two birds to make their first appearances of the season

the northern shoveler

greater yellowlegs

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

I think you benefited a lot from this last assignment! I just love that hawk photo!

ginger (the others are excellent, too.............of course)

    Sorry about your friend, though.

Harry why do they do that 'heavy breathing' thing ? I have never really watched an egret but this morning i sat with the 400mm & watched mine for quite a while & he kept doing this deep breathing. headscratch.gif He was by himself so it wasnt any mating show. he did it when he was about to grab something to eat.

What me rub it in!??? I would never do that :bs

Things are a lot busier there lately. The roads are much better since the hurricane. Can't figure out why though.

Thanks Al it was a sad day if you weren't there. :D

I had to include the turtle. You just don't get to see too many soft shell turtles. Normally they stay hidden but Wilma had knocked down a lot of greenery they usually hide in.

I've seen some of our birds do that heavy breathing. During mating season there's an obvious explanation.iloveyou.gif Other times its usually a way to adjust their body temp.

Thanks Skippy. Gordon is recovering well and should be flying down here in a couple of weeks.

The fish are catcheable and eatable for us too but the birds would not take well to the extra competition. :D
