Yes, they are ok for cleaning glasses and optic, but one is better using a polyester micro fibre lens cleaning cloth and a lens cleaning solution.

Cleaning lenses can create discussions bordering on theological, with suitable heat and emotion - see the discussion here - http://photo.net/learn/cleaning-cameras Some folks favor methyl alcohol, some ethyl alcohol ( for cleaning and drinking ) and some hate isopropyl for cleaning. I had 10% by volume IsoPropyl to lens cleaning solution and have used this for years on glasses, phtographic lenses, binoculars, and other optics.

I strongly prefer polyester micro fibre cloth use, if a lens brush is not sufficient. A 100% cotton diaper or t-shirt ( that have been washed without softener ) is also fine if used with lens cleaning solution. Much cotton cloth today has other artificial fibres in it so be certain.

I prefer NOT to use lens tissue for cleaning lenses, although Zeiss makes some for its surgical microscope optics.

A quick google will give you a bevy of alternatives, like this video

The basic technique is ok, but scrubbing endlessly like they display, makes me squirm. They say rub gently, and then grind away like they are trying to make a telescope mirror. I do like that they start with a fine fibre brush and a blower before using a cloth cleaning.

Speaking of mirrors, do NOT try to clean the mirror in your DSLR. It is a front surface mirror and will scratch quite easily.
