The mountainous highlands of Grand Canaria can offer spectacular sunset light. A short hike into the mountains rewarded us with a breathtaking view of a village nested among soaring red mountain peaks. Setting up my camera, I could hardly hold still in anticipation of the sunset to come. As if a story was being foretold, each step of the sun's decline evoked emotions of beauty and tranquility. This would be my most memorable moment on this trip.

Very nice image, very warm. Are those rock spires sandstone? Curious as to how they look during the day.

Thank you very much. They are not sandstone I believe. i am unsure of their composition, but it is a volcanic island. My flicker stream has two b&w images of the mountain tops. I will be posting more.

Awesome light, I visited the Canary Islands once or twice when I was kid with my folks and I would love to go back and see them now through a lens. I'm so glad you resisted the temptation to open open the shadows, it would have been far less successful if you had. I know it's a little unorthodox, but I wonder how this would look with a lot of the end cropped off? Maybe there is just a little too much empty black at the bottom. Still a great shot though.
