I love smugmug, but it's just not being as flexible as far as customization as I'd like for a main website.. I'm going to create a new site from my root domain, but I'd still like to keep the smugmug site for personal galleries and proofing for clients.
I know how to remove the DNS records so that my root domain will be fully hosted at my web host, but I wanted to clarify the process for redirecting a sub-domain back to smugmug..
This is how I'm thinking it works, please let me know if I'm missing something..
1. remove existing A record for root domain
2. Create the clients.brandonharrisphotography.com subdomain on my host, and create a C NAME record for the subdomain pointing to domains.smugmug.com
3. edit the smugmug domain option via control panel and make it clients.brandonharrisphotography.com.
4. live happily ever after.. (except for all of my previous links to images which I imagine are now broken..)
sound about right?

Good point on the root domain CNAME record.. thanks! This will work out much better.. all of the great gallery / ordering features of smugmug, with complete design / code freedom at the root site level.. not sure why I didn't think of this sooner..
Thanks Josh!
