I just noticed my custom link shortener is not working. Is it SM or bit.ly? How can I tell?

    Hi Cathy,

You can check which link shortener you are using by going to the settings tab of your control panel. It's under social settings near the bottom of the screen, please see this screen grab:

You are using bit.ly. You can switch to using our link shortener in this setting, if you wish?

It's correct in my control panel. I haven't changed anything lately. Any other ideas?

I thought maybe it was because of the SOPA shutdown yesterday, but it's still incorrect.

Got your email also at the help desk, Cathy (which I'll close now)... I will have someone look but as far as I know, beyond putting your info in the right place in our CP (I looked, it's there) there's nothing else we do. But I'll check still the same. Stay tuned.

I reset the API key on bit.ly then updated that on my SM control panel. Nothing else has changed. ne_nau.gif

Cathy, I've escalated the issue, but it's the weekend and it'll take some time. I can't say where the problem lies, on SM, on bit.ly or what. I appreciate your patience. I know you came to chat, too.

Sorry not to see you at WPPI this year!

Hi Andy, Is there a way to shorten the link without losing my domain name?

I hope to retain LightBandit.net or part of it, and not seeing smu.gs or bit.ly

    Thanks.

    Hi Nic,
You should be able to do this by signing up for a bit.ly account and then setting up a domain for it. Once you have the domain set up, you should be able to add your bit.ly api key in the SmugMug account settings > discovery > sharing > bit.ly Pro account section.
