I haven't posted anything for a while and I just thought I would share a few shots from a big game that we had here in town this past week.

GREAT looking shots . . . you must have some serious lighting equipment. Only thing I can pick out is in #1 the players are straight but the background is off kilter.

You're making me rethink my whole available light approach, especially after shooting in a really bad arena last night. Those shots look great!!

very nice action. I would suggest toning down the saturation though - the skin tones in some shots and the rim are over saturated. It's a quick and easy fix and will help it look more natural.

Thanks guys. Einstein strobes, 15' light stands for the lighting.

    Johng,

Actually the skin tones look right on to me. We have quite a few players in these shots that have a mixed raced background so the skin tones are different.

How is the recycle time on your Einsteins? Battery power or plugged in? I usually shoot 2 games in 2 different gyms so Im pressed for time and cant really do the setup. Your shots are GREAT! These shots are direct not bounced, right? Your shots look like what I want mine to be, but my 580 flash units just cant deliver. Your flash/ambient balance is dead on...

I am shooting direct. In this shoot, I think I shot at 1/6 power. I had outlets handy so I didn't use my vagabond mini. In the action mode, I never had any lag. I shot 6 shots in burst mode with no problems. I usually only try 5 shots at the most in a burst.

I agree. Doesn't seem like they are pumped at all.. You want to see oversaturated, I'll show you a local guy that shoots with his nikon set to Nuclear! :P
