all excellent, and #2 is very dramatic, but i think the first one just OOZES "tropical paradise"... to my eye, it seems just a teensy bit too bright, especially on the left side - i'd be tempted to play a bit with levels and saturation just a bit to make the colors deeper and richer, but otherwise, a beauty!

That first one looks as if I am right there! They are vibrant and have a relaxing feel - IMHO. Nice...

Thanks for the comments. I'll try to play with #2 a bit and see what I can do. The sun is just off to the left, so it took a bit of work to get it where it is now.

Great series of a beautiful looking part of the world for sure.
Quick technique question for you if you don't mind.
I tried some of these 2 weeks back and wasn't too happy with the results, is there an idea time of day and setup for slow water and beautiful skies?
My setup was sun setting and shooting across the water with the sun on my shoulder (if that makes sense)

    cheers in advance

These were shot as follows: all with Tokina 11-16. Mostly at 13, since that is as wide as I can get and not get filter in my shot.

    1. Just before sunset, sun from the left, as the angle of the shadow of the rock shows. Vari ND as dark as it gets, 8 seconds at f/22. Even with the Vari ND it is tough to get really long exposure times in sunlight.
    2. Right at sunset, shooting directly at the sun. 1.6s at f/22. Cokin GND filters.
    3. Post sunset, shooting right where the sun went down, 6s at f/22. Cokin GND filters. This is from the rocks on the point in Image #1.
    4. Same angle as #1, just a little leftward on the beach. Post sunset by quite a bit. 6s at f/22. Cokin GND filters, I think.

Thanks heaps for the info, for a moment there I thought I might have to get up early!

There are some stunning beaches and rocks on the Eastern side of Oahu. Maybe one day I'll get up early enough to get a sunrise over there. They are a bit closer as well(not that anything is "far" here).
