So I just got a new camera last night, my first dslr, and had to rush out this morning to try it. This image probably isn't that good but I absolutely love this type of image with the waterfall. It's not very sharp but I don't yet own a tripod. I'd love some tips.

Nicely composed, from where I'm sitting. A terrific first effort.

You'd enjoy the benefits of a tripod.

yes, a tripod is defnintely in order! i like the way you've caught the water with the slow shutter, though you could probably get the same effect at twice that shutter speed... you normally don't need longer than one second tops to get that silky flow effect, and for smaller streams, you can often achieve it at 3/4 second or so... for this shot, i'd also see about doing some PP to brighten up the banks of the stream... it's pretty diark. all in all, though, an excellent first effort!

    Very nice first attempt, Doc!

Grab yourself a tripod and keep it up. thumb.gif

(I know when I got my first dslr, I was pretty broke for a while, but I managed to find a tripod for $10 at a swap meet. I've upgraded since then and it's been worth it, but if you're broke like I was, keep your eyes open)
