Haven't been out for a while so I've been reworking some of my older shots. I have also done some BW conversions, using Silver Efex Pro. Any C&C appreciated. Thanks for looking.

I like your processing of #1, but I feel like it's lacking in composition. Maybe not composition, but content? I've got dozens of shots like that, where it's a beautiful day, there's lots of great textures, but nothing to really draw your eye around. Maybe a telephoto shot would have been more appropriate here.

I enjoy #2, you have solid processing, nice colors, and good composition. Nice work!

#3 is fine on it's own, but next to #2 it kind of pales in comparison.

#4 is brilliant. I really love this photo. I'd like to see it in color, but the black and white works quite nicely nonetheless. Maybe faint color, or a greenish tone? Maybe sepia? I'd play with it more!

#5 is another one I think would benefit from color, or even selective color on say the lines on the road. Solid shot though

4 and 5 are my favorites. 4 in particular is one of those shots that I take over and over again, but can never make work. Somehow you have achieved a great balance between the busyness of the forest and the more solid and stabilising elements of the water and the big tree trunk in the left foreground.

In #5 I might play around with the contrast on the clouds/sky. To my eye it looks like there is more there than you have developed. Then again, after playing around I might come right back to where you ended up.

I think the BnW conversion of number 2 doesn't work as well because it lacks the contrasting colors of the clouds and the rocks, and the other subtle complementing colors between the foreground and the sun. I think it's a an image in which color is more important than tone and texture. Number 4 is just magical, it's very difficult to make sense of forest scenes and not have the shots feel contrived. I think this looks just perfect.

Leave it to me to be the odd person out...rolleyes1.gif

#1 is ok but doesn't really grab me.
#2 INTENSE! I love it! The low angle and lighting gives a great perspective view.
#3 'feels' scary. Not a technical analysis of your work - just a reaction to the photo.
#4 again, evokes a 'spooky' feeling - love it. iloveyou.gif
    #5 - uh, nada, sorry.

    Lauren-

I really like #2 and #4 in this series. The lower angle really adds to both of these images. thumb.gif

    Hi Lauren,

I'm with most folks....#2 ( color version ) and #4 are the ones I like the most. #4 is truly an outstanding picture. It reminds me very much of Clyde Butcher's work....and that's no small compliment as Butcher is one of the world's best photographers.

    Take care,

Thank you all for the detailed and helpful comments . . . and the compliments also. I am glad to have #4 generate so much discussion and appreciation. It took a lot of work to set up and to process to a point I was happy with. I really liked the scene when I came upon it and wanted to try and capture what I was seeing. I am glad it worked for so many of you.

I will look at all the suggestions and post some additional shots later. I will give color versions of the B&Ws so you can compare.

Again, thanks to each of you. This has turned out to be a terrific thread for me as it generated more discussion than I anticipated. Much appreciated!
