google image ripper

In some of my referers i find the link http://www.googleimageripper.com/ can someone explain to me what this is and does it steal the images and photos from our sites ?? Joe

    Joe, we have no control over them, but you do via turning off external links, blocking large sizes, etc. You can also password protect your galleries, if you wish.

    First time I heard of this, so I checked it out. It doesn't operate too much differently than standard Google image search except that you can view the large image directly without going to the source website, which could be malicious. Handy in certain circumstances where image search results in going to an 'unsafe' site, but if there truly is a loophole that allows that, I'm sure Google will fix it at some point.

    As far as the images, they're the same ones available on Google, so nothing is exposed any more than normal. The whole 'ripping' concept from the site title seems more like a marketing ploy than anything else. thumb.gif
