Reminds me of an instance involving a good friend and his beautiful 1963 356-B. He bought it in 1968. It had seen a rough life and needed some love and tender care. He spent 3 or 4 months bringing it back to showroom condition....including a fantastic repaint, custom interior, etc.
He had it back from the shop about a week and he decided to take it to a solo pylon race at a local airstrip. He got off the runway, hit the soft sand, and rolled that jewel 3 times. Fortunately, all he got was a bruised shoulder. The car was a total loss.
