1and1 Hosting says I need to change my DNS server names in order to use the email address associated with my domain name, but Smugmug says they do not have these???? How am I supposed to use my email?:scratch

Tim, I am afraid that we do not have DNS servers that you can use. My only advice is to work with 1and1 to get the email working through them, or use a different domain host. 1and1 is the only one that fails at this stuff.

I'm assuming that you own a domain and that 1and1 is hosting your web site on that domain and that you want to host your email with a different isp.

My guess is what they are saying is that you have to update the MX records for your domain to point to the server that is hosting you email.

But I'm not quite sure I understand what you mean in by "use my email". The website in your profile shows you email address as "toverhulser at live.com". Are you trying to end up with something like toverhulse at portraitsoncentral.com/ ?

BTW you have some nice images on your sitethumb.gif

I figured it out YAYwings.gif All I had to do was change the IP Address (A-Record): to 63.81.134.23 and low and behold I am now receiving emails sent to cantact@portraitsoncentral.com

So It does work with 1and1 hosting.

Wow! So what's that IP address? Is it for SM or 1to1?

It is SM's IP. I had to do a little research on the net to find it.

I'm sorry but neither www.portraitsoncentral.com or portraitsoncentral.com are working. Your domain is NOT set up properly with a CNAME to domains.smugmug.com and an A-record to our IP address of 208.79.45.23
this is all outlined here: http://help.smugmug.com/customer/portal/articles/93340

This is actually the very reason why we stopped supporting domains from 1and1. No other domain host has this issue that I am aware of. My only recommendation is to transfer the domain to a new host if 1and1 cannot allow you to use:

    www CNAME pointed at domains.smugmug.com
    @ A record pointed at 208.79.45.23

Email is done using MX records. You should use the MX records your email provider recommends.
