Today I received my February 2012 copy of the BMW MOA magazine. This publication is distributed to members in the BMW Motorcycle Owners Association worldwide. I was asked to shoot a local event honoring one of only two women in the world to ride BMW specific motorcycles a documented 1,000,000 miles. Each of these ladies is a good friend of mine as well.

The event was held at Lonestar BMW in Austin, Texas. In addition to a fully catered complimentary BBQ meal, two bands were present providing music. This event also was held in conjunction with Lonestar's annual food drive to feed the hungry. Riders came in from all over Texas as well as other states to be part of the award ceremony.

Ardys, also known as "Queenie" in riding circles is 79 years young. Some of her documented accolades in addition the the Million Mile award include:

* Started riding in 1985
* Owned 16 motorcycles, sometimes two or three at a time used in rotation
* A licensed pilot
* Bred and showed dogs and horses
* Great grandmother of seven
* Completed four Iron Butt Rallies (11 days, 11,000 miles each)
* Too many Saddlesore 1000's to count (1000 miles in 24 hours, doing four of this ride in a row)
* Rode the 49 State Tour in eight days
* Rode Coast to Coast in less than 50 hours
* At 74 rode 82,000 miles in a six month window (a record for women) and 100,000 miles that year

On pages 54-57, in addition to a wonderful article written by the husband of the other Million Mile winner (Voni Glaves), here are a couple images which were selected and used.

    Good going, Scott. As an ardent motorcyclist for over 50 years, I can only stand in awe of this lady's accomplishments. I can't imagine that someone who doesn't ride can really appreciate what she has done. 1,000,000 miles = massive " monkey butt ".

    Thank you all for the kind words. I do appreciate them very much.

    Liz - yes, you are correct in that I am a bicyclist. In fact, I'll be about six hours North of you the middle of August participating in a race in Mont-Tremblant. I did however ride motorcycles for many years up until recently.

    Love the shot of Queenie holding the plaque. I suspect that really captures her. Way to go!
