Las Vegas Woman's Hockey Classic 2012

Every year in January, Las Vegas hosts a hockey tourney for adult females who play only one reason -- the love of game. This year, i brought my camera gear along with hockey gear and learned that shooting after playing a game is very exhausting, especially with wet hair and damp clothing. My only other regret is that there are very few frames for the team that I played for. I was able to grab handful of frames between shifts at the end of the 3rd period, but holding a camera while in full hockey gear is *really* hard. :wink

These games were played over four days with starting from 8am in the morning and we even had some games starting at midnight in three different rinks. Unfortunately, the lights cycled in all of them :-(

1. Break a way

2. I didn't do it!

3. Don't forget the back door, but I think refs should have called "in the crease"

4. I didn't know the human body could bend that way

5. Not a hook

6. Superwoman. Note: The landing isn't good for folks with shoulder issues

7. Wished I looked like that when I shoot the puck

8. The chase

9. Scoring is a team effort; celebrating is one too

10. Open net goal -- massive hustle from both players. This goal was earned.

10. It's not the stanley cup, but the victory means a lot to both teams

C&C welcomed.

Great shots April. I have been waiting all year to see some of your work. Not too many hockey shooters on this site now. I have 4, 8 and 10 year old grandkids that play the great game. We are now into playoffs.j

You did a good job catching the action & making sure the puck was in the shots.

Either the orange team was playing a ringer, or that chick has a big ol' black moustache . . . mwink.gif

I was wondering if anyone would catch that. :D

In terms of playoffs, that specific game didn't matter in terms of standings since both teams would face each other again the finals the very next day. The Buck Tooth Angry Dolphins figured they had three options. 1)Play just hard enough to win without wearing themselves out 2) Don’t bother playing at all and party all day in Vegas. 3) Decide to have some fun and buy stick-on moustaches for the team

    1. Dolphin's team photo, before their game!

To my surprise, the mustaches stayed on for most of the game....
    2. In disguise!
    i-hgtcHcV-L.jpg

The refs saw them before the game and asked for some as well.

The Dolphins ended up losing that game by allowing two goals within the last two minutes of the game.

However, the came back the next day and won the game that matter.

    3. I love team hugs.

Noting to pick on here--really great shots! I particularly like the timing on many of the action shots, and the composition is nicely done as well. Good colors and exposure, which is not easy in most hockey rinks. It's also great to capture those celebratory moments; something I took me while to learn, as I had this tendency to drop my camera and check my images to see if I captured the moment.

I am shooting my first pro hockey game in a few weeks, and am a little intimidated!

    Thanks for the kind words.

Shootings the Sharks? Good luck and have fun! The lights for HD broadcast makes it pretty easy to shoot once they come up to temperature.
