Good times yesterday.
In this shot, you can see a 30mm round in the left of the frame.
Being in the tower and watching these guys do strafing runs was truly impressive. One of the cool things was seeing the gun fire, watching the bullets hit their target, then hearing the sonic boom of about 100 30mm rounds fly by you, followed by the report from the gun itself. The sonic boom from the rounds was loud, but the report from the guns was this deep, super loud BRRRRRROOOOOOOOP that lasted no more than a second in most cases.
I'll get some more pics up later.

Any chance of finding him and sending a copy?
Zanotti, we always make sure to provide shots to the pilots. They love seeing them. There is always a PR person or someone who has direct contact with the pilots and they sort that out.

How cool is that to catch a round in the frame
Scott:
Do you have special access, or is this close enough to public lands to capture these?

Nice captures
I was fortunate enough to stumble across a group of aviation photographers who accepted me into their fold. One or two of the guys have connections to get us on bases and such. As a result a small handful of us get to go with them for shoots like this, or NAF El Centro last November ( http://dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=210351 ), where I will be heading back to in two weeks for a Blue Angels practice.

Thanks, and thank you for your service to our country.
DaddyO, capturing a round in turns out not to be that difficult. With all that light out there, you can crank up the shutter speed. Just be ready to anticipate when the pilot will pull the trigger and you have a good shot at stopping the action.
