Guys and Gals,

Just FYI, there is a documentary on Netflix right now (should you have a description) about Bill Cunningham, a street photographer with the New York Times. Don't know much about this gentleman, hopefully will know much more by the time this is finished. What a dream, to shoot in New York. Maybe someday.

It is a great documentary about a very interesting character. There's very little about photography in it though; he shoots with an old film camera, and at one point he says that he doesn't really consider himself to be a photographer as much as a documentarian of fashion. Much of the story focuses on his ability to see new fashion trends on the streets of New York. There is one great scene at a Paris fashion show where he is sitting on the side of the runway with his small camera, while a whole gaggle of shooters is at the end of the runway condensed behind a sea of serious glass.

While I have no interest in fashion photography, I do love street and fortunately spend a lot of time in NYC!

I just saw that scene. It's pretty funny, and what he said is very true, to be honest. He is capturing something different.

I will say, for someone who does describe themselves as a photographer, he certainly has some serious credentials behind that title, haha. This is really interesting to me. It's a good lesson in humility and approaching people if anything.

He is humble if nothing else. I won't spoil it for others, but I found some of his conversational revelations towards the end revealed a tragic side to his life. Had he been born later or in a different culture, he might have had a more broadly fulfilling life. But as it is, he seems very happy doing what he does.
