Excellent. Russ, would you mind disclosing the length of time it took you to see, compose, and make this shot? I'm just curious. I feel about 25% of the time I can do it all fast enough.
Quincy, I don't know if this is what happened with Russ, but with situation like this - you basically just watch for the situation. That is, I bet this is not the only instance where the little girl stands up or acts cute or whatever. So if you are sitting across her, you know that some photo op may happen. Then the question comes to if you want to take advantage of it. If so, you would turn the camera on, set the ISO, focus, shutter etc. appropriately and just wait.
Of course, Russ may be a quick draw and saw the event happening and did it all in 0.1 seconds.
Thanks, guys. Richard's right. I saw the situation developing, stopped eating, turned on the camera, surreptitiously focussed, went back to eating, and waited. I shot at least three frames when the kid stood up and started emoting. This was the most complete.
I like this shot with the threesome forming points of interests and the guy having an apron on -- initial impression was that he was part of the party. Instead, she must be demanding better service...

Reminds me of the contact series posted of the cook/owner to some extent. I'd bet she was a little firecracker too....
