This is a suspension bridge in Spokane's Riverfront Park. Just trying out my B & W work.

It has good lines for a black & white. Nice clouds for interest in the sky.

I read this somewhere and tried it.

    Selective Color Layer
Hue/Saturation layer with the Sat set to -100

Then go back and tweak the selective color layer

I have also read but not tried yet, the technique of doing a USM before PS'ing, to bring out the highlights lost in the camera. Ever heard of that one before?

No I have'nt but there is a lot I have'nt heard of...:D I tend to leave the usm til the end so I know what I have. I use channel mixer set to monochrome and then mess with the sliders..

That's what I do too, Lynn. But I've found that I can get the same faux Ansel Adams contrasty look with a RAW image by going zero on the saturation, then playing with the contrast and brightness.

    Spockling, I love your sky.

rolleyes1.gif Nah, it's just a leaf with some beaded water on it. I don't have the original anymore, or I'd show you how ordinary it really was. I was shooting at around noon, so the light wasn't very friendly. That's why I made it B&W, it seemed to help. Can you see the man's face staring at you from under the leaf? lol3.gif

    Sorry for the hijack, Spockling.

I like the last one. I think the shot's nicely framed and the sky is great. I think the issue is that it was shot when the sun was high in the sky, so the lighting on the bridge itself is pretty harsh. Consciously or not, I think maybe that's what the fixes are trying to address. Not sure what the right approach is, assuming I'm even right.

I like the second one too spock.. I think the sky on the first one is too harsh and unreal. The second shot is softer.
