Totally agree, but the D800 would require me to upgrade my computer first. My MBP will turn 2 in April and only has 4GB of RAM. It has a hard enough time churning through batches of D700 images. The RAW files of the D800 are about 75MBs each, and TIFFs are >100MBs each. That's something nobody wants to talk about with a 36MP beast.
Your D3 is definitely still a fine camera, 4 yrs old or not...
I'm probably not going to be making an offer, unfortunately. That next generation iMac should be released any day now...

Unless you're shooting sports you are better off with the D800. Not that tough a decision.
