We were out last week near the St. John's River here in Jacksonville, in a little area called Mayport. I happened to have the camera with me on our way back from dinner and thought the sky looked promising. I think it ended up being worth the stop. Let me know what you think...

Nice work, Steve. I like them all but I think the simplicity of the third one wins out. Well done.thumb.gif

I eat out at Stricklands seafood restaurant there in Mayport quite a bit. Mayport takes you back to what OLD FLORIDA used to look like.....small coastal village where the folks made their living from the sea.

I always wanted to lie naked on a bearskin rug in front of a fireplace. Cracker Barrel didn't take kindly to it.

    Hey Tom,

Thanks for the comment. I agree, #3 is my favorite as well. That heron was lurking around a guy fishing, and then flew away for a while and I followed him. I wasn't really prepared, but was walking out into the mud flats with my shoes and had to try and get as close as possible without spooking him (I only had my 17-55 lens with me at the time).

By the way, I think you mean Singleton's restaurant? Stricklands has been gone for years. By the way, if you're out there again, try Safe Harbor Seafood's little restaurant. We've been going there the last few times (that's where I was coming from when I got these shots) and I think they are actually better than Singleton's. The only exception might be the atmosphere.

Thanks, Steve, for correcting me about Singletons. I don't know why I still want to call the place Stricklands....it drives my wife crazy. I have thought of giving Safe Harbor a try....now I will for sure.

Tom I forgot to mention, I took a look at your web page and pictures. I absolutely love the WWII fighters and bombers. Unfortunately I haven't ever had the opportunity to view them in person. I just love the sound of old piston engines from that era.

    Wow!

    Very nice images.

I'd have to go with the crowd, #3 is my favorite.

Have you considered enlarging it? Bet it would make a great business card image too.

    Thanks for sharing these

I hadn't really thought about it much, but it would make a decent large print for my wall. It's already the computer desktop wallpaper on a few of my family's computers and tablets though :)

Gonna go with number 3(Shock!). Love the deep, deep reds at max saturation. Reminds me of the colors people would get from Kodachrome film, for some reason.

Me too Steve. #3 is definitely worthy of hanging on the wall. Love the colors and simplicity of it.

#3 is my favorite. I really like how you captured the transition of the sky from blue to red. Nice composition.
