Nikon 50mm 1.8D or G?

Real quick question, well maybe it won't be......... the 50mm 1.8G is near impossible to find in stock right now, and I was thinking about picking up a 50 prime. However the 1.8D is readily available in a few places and quite a bit less.
Having the D7000 I could still autofocus with the 1.8D correct? Since I don't need the af-s lens.
Would that be a good choice or are the optics in the newer one better and worth the wait? Also, I do have the Sigma 17-55 2.8 that Matt awesomely recommended, so the prime would be a little redundant but I think still a nice one to have around.

It's not what you look at that matters: Its what you see!

For anyone who pushes their gear to the edge of what is possible, (focus, sharpness, shallow depth, low-light, etc.) ...the difference will be worth it.
Hate to contradict what you were hoping for! Honestly the AF-D is fine, I'm just here to say that the AFS-G is VERY worth the wait / money...
