There is a downside to macro photography. It is that you see everyday items up close and much too personal. Having viewed this set of photos, I've decided to toss some items and go shopping first thing Monday. Recognize ths?

I certainly do! Stainless steel? Apparently not. That is a steak knife straight out of the dishwasher (after it was dried on a tea towel). Clean? Scary. Time to buy new knives for sure!

Next time I visit you, we're eating out . . . or I bring my own knives!

To get rid of it / them would depend (to me) on whether they still cut effectively.

If so, keep and use for non-food related jobs, similar to one I did a few days ago when I wanted to cut thro a piece of 3in thick floor insulation (to kneel on when out with cam)

Thanks all. Do you suppose clerks would look at me askance if I took my camera and lens and examined potential purchases up close? Stainless steel - uh huh. Not.

Aside from being appalled by the rusty edges of my steak knives, it was certainly a good exercise for working on focus with my macro lens. Thanks for the kind comments.

Great shots. I guess you're getting enough iron in your diet lol. I'll never bring my camera into the kitchen again. Well... At least not with a macro lens on it :/

Thanks. Ironic isn't it? I have a condition called 'hemochromadosis' that essentially means I have too much iron in my blood. The treatment is 'blood letting' every 3 months - sucking between 1/2 and a full litre of blood out of me to dilute the iron concentration which can damage major organs like the liver and kidneys. Who knew my cutlery could be contributing? mwink.gif

Maybe you can quit the treatments when you get new cutlery!
