One of the first (and second) gators I've seen in the wild.

The smaller one in front was probably in the 6 foot range, the big guy, at least double that.

Canon T3i with a Canon 300 f2.8 and a Canon 2xtc. slight crop.
Yeah, I'm afraid of them. :D

Gators are pussy cats. They will usually get away from you if you get too close. Then there's the unusual times when they try to munch on you. They can move extremely fast for short bursts.

I try to shoot them from my car. If I'm on foot I want them a safe distance from me. Right now they are pretty calm. They start their mating season in April and then they are a tad aggressive.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

I had one (about a 6 footer) that didn't like me near the water edge.
It swam straight at me, with what appeared to be purpose.
I decided to back away from the water, quickly. :D

Gators like most wildlife have two things on their brains, procreation and food. When a gator approaches you either of those two possibilities isn't appealing.
