Odd Weather

Last week provided us with some unusual weather for this time of year in my part of Korea. Usually it's clear blue skies all Winter and nary a cloud to be seen. Kind of got lucky though, and some nice clouds and strange-ish weather for Daegu added a bit of life to the "stick season".

Korean Savana:

I've tried to photograph this odd little bush a few times, as it sits all by itself among a wide swathe of grass but never managed to get anything interesting before.

Receding Light:

Even though the little puddles weren't frozen at the time of this photo, I was surprised to find that I couldn't close the legs of my tripod when I had removed it from the mud. A thick layer of crystallized muck took me nearly 10 minutes to knock loose!

Mountain Pine and Fog:

An incredible, dense fog blanketed the whole landscape so that only a few peaks were visible in the distance. I've been going on hikes at least once a week in Korea for almost 3 years and have never seen anything like it before!

Summit Adrift:

The same weather from the same hike as the photo above totally hid the base of these mountains. Within 30 minutes the fog had thinned enough to make out the ground below, and the thick cloud over head broke up to into a wonderful sunset. You can bet I've got a few pics of that, too. Just haven't had the time to do anything with them yet.

Just processed one from later on that day when the cloud cover broke to let some sunlight through. I don't usually go for just pretty sky shots, but couldn't help myself this time. Any foreground elements would have "grounded" the scene too much, I think.

    Hi Crokey,
What a bunch of great shots. I really like your Korean Savana. Interesting clouds and nice colors too.
You've got a great eye man. I'm really digging your mountian and fog shots. Sweet skies.
I'm at work, so sorry I can't comment further or in more detail...

Very nice. My favorite is the Summit Adrift from the first set, followed by the Receding Light shot.

Me too. I like how the fog creates layers between the mountains.

Thanks for all the comments. I was pretty damn lucky with the crazy fog that was present during that hike. I didn't expect to get much as during the hike up I was deep in the fog and didn't expect it be stuck to the ground the way it was.
