Digital Price Mystery:

I don't understand how to price my digital downloads in the new system

I'm trying to setup a gallery download

I've set my profit to $10/$25/$50 for lo/hi/orig
and I see a price of 12.75/30.4/59.85

if it's just smugmug's 15 cut it should be:

10*1.15 = $11.75
25*1.15 = $28.75
and
50*1.15= $57.50

i'm only rounding up by .05

even if I assumed the base price was factored in like it would be for a print that still doesn't account for the difference.

I attached a screenshot

its easiest to explain if we work backwards.

lets take your $10 profit that equals $12.75 sale price (it hits that on the button so no rounding involved)

the formula effectively works like this:
final price - base = gross profit
    gross profit * 85% = your profit

so with real numbers you get:
    12.75 - .99 = 11.76
    11.76 * .85 = 9.996 (rounded to $10, the profit you entered)

    that help?

that makes a little more sense but...
thank you, that makes a little more sense... but

i see on the smugmug description of the price that they have a minimum not a a base price
"Digital Downloads now have a minimum cost: $.49 for individual photos and $.99 for gallery downloads. Want to offer these for free? Enable Originals in your gallery, create a backup file to share, or create a Coupon to nuke the charges at checkout."

so as long as i set my price higher than that that shouldn't factor into the overall cost.. i figure this is to cover their transaction costs/storage .

You can think of it as a base price as it doesn't figure into the profit calculation. So you would subtract the minimum price of the download from the retail price and then do the profit math.
