More Maine Roads

I posted several road shots in autumn. Here are a couple after a surprise snowfall earlier this week. These were handheld. Standing in the middle of the road, I didn't want to set up my tripod, since I did encounter a couple of cars coming towards me on that road. :D

I have an horizontal shot of #1 but wanted to see how it worked in vertical format.

When I saw #2, I thought it would work well in B&W b/c of the contrast of dark trees and snow. How is the conversion?

C&C welcomed.

Thanks,
Lauren

    Good work, Lauren.

I would prefer to see the first shot in its horizontal format. The " landscape " format is, generally speaking, better for a landscape scene. I do like the second shot in B&W. Seeing as there would not have been a lot of color to accentuate anyway, your approach here works well. Overall, you've done well with your " road " series.

Like your B&W conversion in #2. Nice tonal range.

x3 Me too. Winter roads work well in B&W.

The first one doesn't really grab me - although whether it's the orientation or something else, I can't put my finger on why. Sorry.

I much prefer the horizontal version and I find #2, the BW conversion much more appealing than #1. There isn't a lot to work with colour-wise, especially the road being sort-of muddy brown, so the BW lets you show off the contrast better. I prefer the composition in the 1st two. I think the last one, with the poles, is distracting. If there were a LOT of poles it'd be neat, but just a couple - nah. :)
