Eyes #97

Hello, This Challenge started the same day my family adopted this new dog Atlas. He is a young Siberian Husky (mix) with cool blue eyes. Thus I knew I had to photograph these eyes up close, but it is not easy, he moves, focus, refocus, focus, craw on floor, etc... Of course I think eyes should be shot with no flash at that range so high ISO grain, slow shutter.... Any Tips appreciated.

I did some post on all. There should be some more chances to shoot, he follows me around a lot :-)

Spooky eyes. Main critique is focus. The eyes, e.g., in #3, need to be tack sharp. These eyes are spooky enough (few markings in the iris) that maybe they are and I cannot just tell. But they come across as slightly out of focus.

Of these I would say #2 ... #3 is too dark IMO. Also, (and I know this can't be helped) the marking under his right eye really pulls my eye from his eyes to that spot.

I agree with the above comments. I like number 2 but I would like to see it a little sharper.

1 & 2 arent' sharp enough. As Greg said, 3 might be sharp enough, but there's something not quite there yet. I'm wondering if the lighting in #3 could be more contrasty. Perhaps with a darker background and more ambient just on they eyes, you may find that the contrast helps the sharpness pop out.

congrats to you for adopting this soul.

My favorite image would be number 2. Good luck

    Thanks for the feedback,

I have 2 new boxes of treats and my lights set up.... I'm going to try for some more Macro one eye shots. (Like #2)

Here is another (focused) (scar retouched, Brighter, 2 eye shot)

I like the expression in the eyes of #4, but don't like how the ears and nose are chopped off, or the background. I think I'd like it better if you include the ears and nose, or if you crop both off altogether.

i dont know, i dont see any amazing feeling in the first two. A little in the third though. I feel if I were going to get a picture of an animal where you want the eyes to be the focus, id want to see either A)The eye(s) with a sense of emotion B)The full face with emotion C)The full face with absolutely no feeling in it, not just half way. However, this is definitely one that you can reshoot even though it can take a long time to get one that is really worth it.

I agree it takes something away with the ears being out of the pictures but I do like the retouching. However, I still think it is number 2 for me.

Well, #2 is not any closer to getting re-done... This dog is never still.

Couple of two dogs with 2 eyes each...

    #6

I switched to a wide angle lens.... gets the whole dog... but not as much eye I could probably photoshop out the background... not sure it is worth the effort. Here is a Photoshop gone wrong image with three dogs.

I like the look & posture Atlas has in both #4 & #7, but agree that the eyes kinda get lost - a closer up, face & shoulders only, of one of those poses would be cool. I know what you mean about them never being still - hard to get them in focus when they won't stop for a second!
