resizing for bayphoto, smugmug hard limit

I am curious about large printing - I upsized a few files to send directly to bayphoto for 300dpi at 18x24. Smugmug won't allow an upload that large (80-110M jpegs at 91% quality out of Lightroom3). 300dpi versus 200dpi make that much of a difference? Should I upsize to hit the max file size on all my uploads if I am expecting customers to print 12x18 and up (I'm a DX shooter). Anyone have any real word examples of this working/not working to your expectations? At a minimum I'm paying more attention to less post cropping these days
