Talkin Extension Tubes for Nikon, Not Nikon Brand Extension tubes ... But Kenko, Zeikos, or other brands ...

The old non AF Nikon Extension tubes, PN-1 / PN-11, had a tripod collar.

Can you get an after market tripod collar to fit the newer AF Extension tubes??

This would be such a boon to some of the work I am trying to delve into.

I have never seen such but I agree it would be a great idea for some projects.

    Thanks Ziggy,
I know my after market tripod collar for my old 70-210 is too large to hold my 105 f4 micro AIS...it was just a thought that turned into a burning question .... How to rotate my the cam on the lens axis of my 105f4 micro AIs 360* ....

Some time ago I made a split collar that slid over the top of an extension tube. The outer diameter of of the collar matched the clamping diameter of an existing tripod clamp.

If you know someone with a lathe it's a fairly straightforward job ... just a thought.

that is what I was thinking... also thought about a modified Jones bracket that could rotate 360 instead of just 90*...alas..I may just sell my AIs lenses and go for a new macro lens with tripod collar .. a 150 - 200 would do it...

Funny thing is several of my photog friends seem to have all ahd about the same thoughts on tripod collars and wishing they would make some of the shorter focal lengths with them so we could be more creative, more easily ....

I went a similar(ish) route when doing more macro than atm.
Made a system based on the Newton flash bracket design, but included an (optional) integral articulated macro arm.

Whilst this (flipper) only allowed for 90 deg rotation, it meant that I could use any of the 3 lenses I used with the same rig, whether they had collars or not - and all rotated around the lens axis.

Sometimes all that's needed as a sleeve is a piece (or 2...) of plastic waste pipe, split down its length to get to the required dia. for whatever clamp is available.
