Atlanta Wide Angle

On Sunday, I wandered around downtown searching for a reflection, armed with my wide angle lens (16-35mm). At some point I see a wide angle challenge coming. So I thought I'd practice shooting wide angle shots.

This is at my favorite shooting hole, Olympic Park downtown. I've made a similar shot before, so when I saw Dad hoist the kid up, I knew what I had to do. :evil

As with most major American cities, a good chunk of downtown Atlanta dies when the offices shut down. Empty parking lots litter the city on a weekend. This is currently my favorite building, but I am fickle.

Right next to the park is the CNN Center, where Ted used to live and play, and where CNN does all of its Atlanta-based work. Like Ted Turner, the signage is understated and quiet. Not.

Madonna was playing the second of two nights at Phillips Arena, which is housed inside of CNN Center, and is Atlanta's premiere indoor arena. A gentlemen read the Bible to the Madonna fans as they streamed by.

About eight blocks away is another park, the name of which escapes me. They were enjoying a festival of some sort. There were two small stages with rap singing, lots of booths selling wares, and quite a few people. And yet the down-and-outers still seemed able to find a place to be alone, even in a crowd.

Not 15 yards from the lonely man was a stage where a rap act consisting of two kids was performing. They were quite good - they sang an eponymous song called Innocent. This man stood out in the crowd. I wish I'd had the courage to shoot him from the front.

Seems you enjoy Black and White a lot as well , to express your photos.

I think my minds eye sees in Black and white so I think I am better photographically in B and W.ne_nau.gif

Meanwhile, back at Olympic Park; every summer evening they synchronize the fountain to music. It always draws a crowd, and Sunday was no different. The crowd is a mix of locals, who let their kids play in the fountain, and tourists, who tend to hang around the edges a bit more. I think this couple were tourists.

Thanks Shakey, you're very kind. I felt sorry for the man. As soon as he saw me with the camera, he put his head down and kept it down. I tried to be subtle, but I think he was quite aware of the camera.

Another six to eight blocks away are all the major downtown hotels. Around the hotels are eateries. One of them is a Hard Rock Cafe. I had the Turkey Club. I wouldn't recommend it. Much more palatable is the Cadillac body they have hanging above the entrance.

And that's the end of my wide angle Sunday in Atlanta. Bring on the wide angle challenge, Andy, I'm ready to do battle.
