Customization for mobile devices and tablets

At what point will SmugMug pro users be able to customize our sites for viewing on smartphones and tablets? Currently the mobile version of my site includes none of my custom branding or anything to indicate the site is mine. Nothing but the SmugMug logo appears at the top of the page. Is there any way for me to change this?

This is very much on my mind having just received an email announcing the new Awesome Camera app. Clearly SmugMug is thinking of the mobile marketplace and devoting lots of resources to develop things like this free app.

I've had a SM pro account since 2005 but I'm very close to switching to another service. I'm looking at the ProPhoto content management system because it will automatically provide a customized experience on multiple platforms. A good example is http://www.ryanbrenizer.com/. Ryan's site presents his brand consistently to users on computers, smartphones and tablets.

What is SmugMug doingto address this issue?

We do hope to allow for branding on our mobile site version. Also, if you wish, you can disable the mobile site in your control panel, and folks can view your site normally in the mobile browser (just like on any computer). Thanks for posting!

Andy, "we do hope to" is not really an answer. I would like to know if this is something that SmugMug is actively working on and if/when branding options are expected to be deployed. Disabling the mobile site isn't viable option because mobile users are then left to awkwardly navigate a website designed for a desktop computer experience.

If this isn't a priority I need to know that from SmugMug so that I can find other options for my website.

Hey Nicolo, I don't know if this answer your question since I'm not a smartphone owner but have you viewed the Iphone thread in the customization thread?...the link below

Are you using HTML5 as apart of your web design? That helps show pages on tablets that flash can do. You might want to view the jFriend sticky or the fastmedia homepage. Again I don't know if this is what you're looking for (site viewing/design vs. phone app) but just trying to help.

Thanks!! Looks like disabling the mobile device view worked on my iphone- and my iPad tpp! It looks great and is scrolling through pics on my main page- but what is the enable for mobile device view for if it doesn't help? I am confused but happy it works at the moment! I am still in trial mode... I have posted before ( at least I thought I did) but is there an easy way to link to my facebook page? Make a facebook page tab OR a LIKE me on facebook (this would be better)

Being able to customize the appearance of the smartphone interface would be a great feature! I would also love to have the ability to force certain pages to appear in either the full or smartphone version of the site (e.g. my frontage and portfolio galleries would be viewed in a regular browser window, then all of my client galleries would be navigated using the smartphone interface).

I agree this is a limitation and really hope that SmugMug allows us to customize the mobile enabled feature fully in the future.

In the meantime what I have done is built my website with mobile users in mind. I test it out on my iPhone 4GS and the only thing I have found a pain is the 'pop up boxes' so I simply have not used them. I would suggest doing the same as this sort of customization is probably quite complicated to do so could take SmugMug a while to get right. I know this is not the answer you wanted but there are always compromises to make on any system.

Good luck with the design of your website :D
