CS4 defaulting to grayscale

I have no idea why or how this happened. I'm trying to create a new logo & everything is in grayscale even when I've manually changed the color. I've tried pasting a color image & sure enough, it's being converted to B&W. Any idea why this happens?!?!? It's got me a little agitated at this point! Thanks
