Great series. I find #6 to be particularly entrancing. I'm curious about something in #3. From the perspective of the individual shown, what effect, if any, would he have felt at that position when Mt. Saint Helens blew?

    Wonderful work.

Black Mamba, not much of an affect from there except a lot of ash.

I can't tell you what I said about No. 7. Mainly because the additional modifier in front of "fantastic" is an oft-overused adjective deemed ill-suited for family audiences.

amazing stuff as always. i can't help wondering what sort of suicidal maniac - or terminal adrenaline junkie - would make a leap like #7, into the trees!!! i'm sure there was a clear space to land in, but misjudging speed or angle just a little could prove disastrous!

For sure, as you guessed from the image, a miscalculation can be painful. What mitigates that risk is the guys I ski with; they are brilliant at what they do. This comes at the expense of what many would consider to be a normal life. They often ski over 150 days a year, work the rest of the year to save so that they can ski. With that much dedication, what appears difficult to some of us becomes second nature to those that dedicate their lives to becoming very good at a discipline that makes their soul sing, heart dance and eyes twinkle.

At least that's the poetic way of putting it :D Fundamentally, as you guessed, we're just terminal adrenaline junkie's wings.gif.

    Simply unbelievable shots.
I had the pleasure of skiing in the French Alps, near Mont Blanc and I remember just how difficult taking shots was, so big big props to you.

Your photos never cease to amaze me. Not just the subject and the sense of adventure, but how you get such beautiful contrast and yet tons of detail in your b/w images. And luscious colors.

Schmoo, I really can't wait to see what the D800 Nikon will do. It was either upgrade my camera body or buy a new lens. I'd really love to have the 70-200 2.8 VRII. I hate being limited to my 2 lenses, a 150 fixed and a 17-35. Ha. I can't carry much more on week plus ski mountaineering adventures though. Nevertheless, the 70-200 would be rad for images up there. Maybe I'll get my hands on one soon.

    Kdog,

I publish stories and imagery these days. Pretty much I do what I've always done and I've managed to eek a very simple living out of it. Whether or not that is sustainable is always up in the air, but no matter what I just try to improve, write better stories and continue to get out doing what I love to do. I hope the rest will follow. So far it has, if only by the skin of my teeth much of the time. But anything worth doing comes with risk. God knows I like risk.
