I was quite surprised to hear that SmugMug no longer allows free digital downloads of selected sizes. I shoot sports photography for schools and offer the web size for free to the student athletes while parents pay for prints and larger sizes.

This change will force me to go elsewhere. How have you gotten around this for your clients?

We've always allowed free downloads - you can resize to anything you like (easily in PS or LR) and put the photos in a gallery where you allow Originals, and no protection - people can simply hover over the main photo and download it.

Thanks Andy. That means I have to have two galleries, right? One for web size (free) and another for the rest? No way that will work.

Any other suggestions? I tried the coupon approach and it caused a http 500 error at checkout. Lost multiple sales as a result.

I'm not aware of any other way of doing this other than with two different galleries. Sorry.
