I'll be honest, these attempts took me way out of my comfort zone. This is the first time I've *ever* done anything like this. I crosslit with two shoot-through umbrellas; one series was shoot-through from high right, and a bounce umbrella left. The blueberry/coffeebean options were crosslight, shootthrus. These are OOC, but are linked from my facebook account, so won't show EXIF data ...

C&C welcome, desired. Esp from the pro joes that do this sorta thing regular-like.

#3: (I like the overall composition on this shot, but wonder if this could have been framed tighter.)

#4 and for something different ...

I really like your idea of the strawberries with the green leaves. The gray background, however, I find real distracting/unappealing. Can you reshoot these berries with either a simple white or black backround, or a red or green background, or closer--to eliminate the background altogether?

That was the blackest thing I had. White would have produced exposure issues, methinks.

Of these, I like the second one best for the comp (like that the strawberry is a bit off-center, but think I might like it more if it were not as straight on to the camera) & then the third if it were a tighter crop. They seem a bit grainy to me, & I'm with Kate on the background - probably why I like #2 best - less background. You might also check or play with your white balance - the strawberries seem a touch orange to me (but maybe that's my monitor). I also like #4, but since the colors are so much deeper/darker, it doesn't seem as colorful (although in real life, these colors would be my choice for many things!).

    Noted on the background.

They're grainy because they've been linked from Facebook, I'd imagine. They were shot at 320 iso, or thereabouts.

I like the first one best for the color combination - did you try a black background?

In #2 I like the arrangement, but I'm not sure about the yellow/green

In the last one I like the composition but the 3 colors are not exactly in a good contrast imo....

OK. I found time to buy new strawberries (not much good stuff out there) obtained a black background (not sure why it aint coming up blacker!) and reshot.

Heeding the concerns over white balance (I think one eagle eye picked up on a background incandescent!) I turned down the background lights, shot flash only, and performed a manual white balance prior to shooting. Same setup: two crosslit shoot-through umbrellas, 1/8, ISO bouncing between 200 and 320 for the most part, F5.6 and a tad more here and there, 1/200 sec. No data because these are linked from Facebook (yes, I'll submit an original by Monday.)

I like B5 best. The close crop removes the frame of reference for the edge of the stack and makes it seem larger than it is. The colors are working well for the challenge theme, too.
