The "street" in Florida this time of year is Main Street in
Daytona. It's the start of Bike Week.
Sea Dog's peripheral vision is good, and he saw me bringing
my lens around and reacted accordingly.

Later, I saw the guy and went up to him and asked him if he'd
like to see his photo. He looked and shrugged.
Then he asked me why I was photographing people. I told him
it was my hobby just like riding a motorcycle is his hobby. He
nodded and clapped on the shoulder in a friendly manner.
Some of the meanest looking bikers are pussycats when they
see you taking a photo. They like the attention.

Funny you should mention that. I recently attended a presentation
on composition and the various things that make or break good
composition.
The speaker brought up the problem of distraction caused by
multiple focal points in an image and the effect of contrast (white
objects in a dark area and black objects in a light area) in creating
unwanted focal points. With this fresh in mind I saw that cigarette
and thought of cloning it out.
Then, I thought "No, in 'street' we show warts and all" and left
it in.
The presentation speaker's training and background is in art,
and he's a well-respected landscape artist and photographer
in this area who teaches art and photography at a local college.
He has little respect for the type of photography featured in
this forum. We talked about this. He thinks just grabbing
shots is not "real" photography.
He would have reacted favorably to the finger as a focal
point and as a leading line directly to the focal point of the
face. He's big on that type of thing.

Wouldn't cropping be an option worth considering - if you haven't already?

I thought his finger was making a leading line directly to you...
I like the cigarette, not as a distraction, but as an additional element. Once the hand and face are explored, my eye wants to wander to find other points of interest and the smoke adds to his personality and the photo. It is not distracting enough to be part of the initial viewing.
Well done -- no wider perspective/setting is needed as his posture and clothing give great context.
Great capture too!

Yup, the advrider greeting...
