Using Manfrotto tripods adapt with RS-7 Strap

Question, I'm thinking about buying a Black Rapids RS-7 camera sling and was wondering if anyone is or has tried using it with the Manfrotto tripod mounting plates with the D-ring on the bottom.

I have to have something different...using the as supplied strap is not cool for all day shoots.

Sure I could use the supplied F3 adapter, but was just wondering. If I used the adapter plate , I would only have to unhook the RS-7 from my camera and set it on my tripod. Less steps...less equipment to track and store...and then remember where it is when you need it...lol...

Any help is appreciated.

    Ed,

I've been connecting my cameras to the D-Ring on my Manfrotto quick release and a Black Rapid strap for several years. In fact, my strap is the original R-Strap. Just so you get an idea of the weight I pack, Canon 40D, battery grip, 70-200mm or 100-400mm. Now I'm using the same on my Canon 7D, battery grip, with the same lenses.

I remember hearing a comment by Scott Bourne on the Photo Focus podcast. He was quickly turned off by the R-Strap after losing a body to the pavement. He didn't go into details. It could have been a D-Ring, F3 adapter, improper installation, etc. I'm interested in the responses you get in this thread.

I've done that before, but thought better of it since. I seem to remember hearing about the d-ring failing when used like this. I can't find any references now but it does make sense since the QR plate's D-ring wasn't designed with that load in mind and it's just a piece of metal crimped into the bolt.

I'd be considering replacing it with this for the peace of mind:

Thanks for sharing that info. I think that $17 is cheap for peace of mind.

I have been using the T1 connector with Manfrotto RC plates for a couple years. Works great. It's nice going from strap to tripod and back again with ease.

*It is not recommended to connect strap to the D rings.* I would advise against that if you love your camera.
