A Feature we all need:

Crop Detection!
Example: A customer buys prints of an 8x10 crop in 4x6 format and destroys the fine art of COMPOSITION. I then have to spend time cropping finished works that should have defaulted to the proper aspect ratio in the first place and shipped without ME having to stop what I am doing and edit an already finished Photograph.

This could be offensive to Photographers who want to deliver only the EXACT artwork intended to the market.

If the galley interface made ME check a box indicating the crop ratio I would be Ok with that.
I suggest the same crop ratios available in the dropdown menu in Adobe Lightroom 3 as the "standards". or 1x1 4x6 and 8x10 and custom...

THEN: the products in the (pricelist) would default to the sizes that actually FIT the image correctly
imagine that?

MANUALLY fitting images to customers crop selections after they have purchesed them is ROOKIE.

This make smugmug look like they dont know how to pull off a good print job sucessfully?

Yup.

all the best

Thanks for posting such a great, detailed feature request. If you don't mind, we'd love it if you would put your feature requests here: http://feedback.smugmug.com

    Thanks!

Also, if you aren't doing it now, please do use Proof Delay so you can re-adjust crops as necessary or get our heroes involved if an image is ordered for a size you don't want to sell.

    + 1,
I absolutely agree with this comment. It is so frustrating that it takes so much work to get a photo to come out the way it was designed to come out. It is way too complicated and time consuming for the customers to try to figure out how to get the right aspect ratio, especially when most of the crops are custom crops. Most customers either settle for the wrong composition or simple decide not to purchase.
