I know that everyone comments on the catch lights every time that someone posts a headshot taken with a ringlight, but nevertheless...I'm commenting on the catch lights. Here's my take: particularly on a dark photo like this where you can't see any detail in the model's eyes, the catch lights are really freaky. Imagine looking at this if you weren't a photographer and didn't know why there was a weird white ring in the guy's eyes. In this case, perhaps it works since he looks like a wizard and those could be magical eyes, but normally those catch lights just don't make any sense.

That being said, it's a great portrait (I'd just retouch the catch lights).

Great comment. It is great to read opinions from all the people. I know what you mean about the catch lights - well I used the light for that effect - because I love the catchlights. But that is just my freaky taste :) Still, thank you for commenting.

I don't know why, but this puts me in mind of a boxer, so the ring catch lights totally make sense; or it could be that the ring light is what made me think of it either way. The one thing I'm curious about: was the bokeh added in post or was it created in capture?

I love the lighting and mood on these two but I'm in Brett's camp. Personally, I can't get past the catchlights. I know that is my personal thing but it is what it is. I like everthing else about them though :D

Like both and the ring light. Just amazed at how clean C1 can make files. They seem to be a little more sharper out of C1 than other converters.

The second image is very cool. Love the ring flash catch lights in his eyes. I look at this photo and think, "These are not the droids you're looking for."
