Yes, you can. I have an older Sigma "Bigma" 50-500mm EX APO HSM that I have used with multiple Canon dSLRs. It works particularly well on the 5D MKII.

The "DG" versions are supposed to have some extra lens coatings that are supposed to help with digital sensors, but I have not had a problem with the non-DG version.

Thanks Ziggy, do you mind taking a shot of the markings on your bigma? I want to confirm it is the same version my friend has. He was trying to sell it and somone was wondering if it work on the 20D! My friend called Sigma and they said the original was not compatabile with SLRs..maybe they were being conservative? heh

I feel it's necessary to note that you shoot Nikon, ... and you seem to be considering a Canon version?

Here you go. Just snaps, of course:

That's a cool plane shot! A loooog time ago I was a working stiff in Vegas (outside) for a half year. Had a sore neck from watching all of the takeoff and landings at Nellis.
Love that lens I missed one earlier this year.
