A few from yesterday. A "sneak peek" I guess you'd say. I usually don't crop until it's time to fill the order....and these havent had any retouching....straight out of Lightroom.

1- A lucky puff of wind. Good thing mom had a firm grip on the umbrella stand!
I've done this shot many times before. It is my "go to" spot to start out with when I use this location. It is a simple matter to grab a stellar shot right away and show it to the subject. They are usually "all in" after seeing that. The trust is established.
Canon 50D, 70-200 F2.8L IS, 45 inch shoot through umbrella, Phoxle CTB gel, single 580EX fired via STE2 transmitter.

2- Experimenting with a pose that was shared on Dgrin last week. We didn't really have the right shoes for the full length version to sing.
Canon 50D, 70-200 F2.8L IS, 45 inch shoot through umbrella, Phoxle CTB gel, single 580EX fired via STE2 transmitter.

3- A Lighroom preset I created several years ago. I call it - "Jeff's Summer of 1975".
Canon 50D, 70-200 F2.8L IS, Existing light.

4- Inspired by one of Divamom's shots that was shared here last week. In hers, the subject was peeking around the corner of a wall. I used a crepe myrtle tree.

5- And a BW on the tracks.

    Really good stuff.

REALLY like your invented preset circa 1975.

I do think two is my favorite.

As is, I don't like number one. I do have a feeling that once it is cropped the brick will become less distracting to me and I will like it.

    Thanks for posting with details!

Really like 1 & 2 alot. The porcelain look on the skin is catchy. Watch out for the hand placement in 2. Looks funny when you loose the hand, maybe put it in her hair. Except for the hand I keep going back to #2. It is very nice.

Ooo... - you liked one of my poses! bowdown.gif

I really like 1 and 4, and all of them have your usual beautiful skintones and exposure. So nice to see you shooting and posting again! thumb.gif

Of these, for me I like 1 best....kinda feels like she should be placed a hair closer to the wall. Great looking wall and young lady.
2 I like the concept, for me the pose looks a bit awkward as does the crop into her legs on the right.
3 I like her sassy attitude and processing.
    Nice series overall.

Admittedly, I am REALLY hesitant to EVER pose with hands anywhere near the face. Its so easy to come off as "posey" and un natural. I would like to work those types of shots more into my routine.

    Thanks for the comments.

Thanks Zoomer. I saw a post of yours at DPR. I had no idea you post there. It was my first visit there in years.

    I appreciate the kind remarks!

Really nice work, Jeff! Like the processing options you have developed and how you've captured her spirit.

Question for you. On the RR track images, did you intentionally have her elbows cross into the rails? It would definitely be bad to have them further out, and I'm wondering if having them within the bounds of the rail would have made it look confined.

I did the elbows:tracks intentionally. When I was shooting it seemed to look better to me. The RR lines lead the eye to the elbows....which lead to her.

    YMMV!mwink.gif

These are awesome. Terrific flash work. Can you say a little more about your flash setup? Ie, do you typically shoot in ETTL or manual? In #4, If ETTL, what FEC level do you use? Any other tips? mwink.gif

    Thanks,
    -joel

I shoot ETTL ALWAYS....but keep the camera in manual.

I don't remember the exact FEC on that shot. I generally start with 0 FEC and subtract from there to taste. I generally use shutter speed to adjust background exposures but I like to stay between 1/160 and 1/200 so often I have to bump up the ISO as well.

Its all a matter of taste. I shoot by the histogram and expose to the right. Thats the baseline. Now add ETTL flash and adjust FEC or shutter speed to taste.

    Easy as pie.thumb.gif
