Had an interesting experience this week -
My 18 year old son decided to redecorate his room, including new wall decorations. He consulted with me where to find some nice photos (doesn't even consider his dad's photos :uhoh ). I linked him to on-line galleries of some of my favorite photographers, including dgrin members, and also to an Israeli photojournalist named Ziv Koren.
My wife and I saw a photo by Ziv Koren, last year, at the World Press Photo exhibition in Tel-Aviv, where alongside the international exhibition there was also a national one. This photo portrays an Israeli "Dolphin" submarine, one of three, above water, with a dolphin mammal leaping in it's wake. My son will be joining the navy in March, going to the prestigious Sea-Officers Course, and we thought he may like this photo. He did.
He emailed Ziv Koren asking where he may buy a large print of this shot and they corresponded back and forth through the week. It went something like this:
Son: I like the shot. Where can I purchase a big print?
Koren: How old are you?
Son: 18.
Koren: Had a feeling you were young.
Son: OK, so what about the photo?
Koren: I will send you the file. Promise to print only one and delete the file. I just sold a print for $1200 so you caught me in a good mood. Consider it a present.
Son: Thanks! I will.
Koren: sends the file
Son: Received. Thanks! I am going soon to the Navy Sea-Officers Course. When I command a submarine I'll invite you for a tour.
Koren: Good luck!
I was touched by Koren's gesture.
Another israeli photographer who is doing well, 38 year old Adi Nes, sold The Last Supper print at Sotheby's last March, estimated value $40,000-$60,000, for $102,000! Details HERE
Just though it may be interesting reading.

It is great when people "at the top" show they have a heart and a soul, and are well in touch with the real world. Hope your son enjoys submariner training and career.
