This does appear to be a new varient of the Canon 60D, but this version is designed to allow "some" infrared to pass, as well as visible light.

It will also work for general photography if you supply the proper IR cutout filter for the lens. It also has limited IR-only photography applications if you supply the proper IR band pass filter for the lens.

(From my understanding the Canon 60Da IR notch is very narrow and specific to 656nm and is not as transmissive as a MaxMax or LifePixel, IR only conversion. (590nm or 665nm))

Read some info on the Canon 20Da, and project it forward to the new sensors like in the 60D, and imagine:

Nice, I'll have to send this off to my father since he has some EOS lenses from the early 90's plus a 6" (1600mm) astro physics refractor and an 8 inch (2000mm) reflector, and just moved into the farm which in essence is a dark sky site (one of the reasons he bought it) with the resolution/crop factor of the 60D that could be some serious fun!
