Sounds like a giggled spring. I have a 70-200 Sigma 2.8 that locked down to f32, or thereabouts, in its third year of existence. Took it to a wonderful multi-purpose place that repaired it for cheap. Spring had simply snapped.

I had focussing issues last yaer, and sent it off to a place in Ontario that did a whiz-bang job. Seems like someone I had loaned it to had dropped it, without telling me (grrr). Anyhow, they did a great job, great price, cleaned and rebuilt the thing .... even replaced the collar ($100 new) for free, as the old thread had stripped and been replaced with a helicoil some 10 years ago...

Sounds like you need to find yourself a similar repair place.
