I have been around Digital Grin for a few years, but for some reason I spent most of my time on the forum for modifying my SmugMug site and blog....and never got around to posting any of my photos, but now that I have discovered this section. I will be posting some more.

Comments and critique is always welcomed and encouraged.

Enjoy,

Jim

It is listed as "THE SUNRISE" spot in Canyonlands....so there is generally a crowd there every morning. I went a little later than sunrise but got there early enough to still have the bright glow through the Arch. It is a short hike to get to this Arch so it is highly traveled and photographed...with the best time being in the morning.

Thanks for all the comments....Mesa Arch and The Deadhorse Point are my two favorites from this batch.

Strange you say that, I hiked up almost to Delicate from the shorter last parking lot and when I got up there I was not happy with the angle and shot, so I returned to the parking lot, put on my long telephoto with a 2X EC20 and shot this with a tripod and got what I felt was the much better shot, but it is with the equivalent of a 1600mm lens...

Thanks all - I am now in Wyoming and expect to spend about a week exploring here!

    Awesome series, Jim.

I also love your labeling techniques, and the font choice. Would you mind sharing the name of the font?

Well I hate to give up all my secrets...I looked for that font for nearly a year, and the one I really wanted I never did find...think CSI Miami and the font they use for the credits...I went so far as photographing the TV screen then going to font finder and still couldn't locate it. I think the name of the font that CSI Miami uses is Eurostile Extended....but short a paying Adobe license fees for a whole font package...I found a great font family that is very similar and can be had for FREE.

The name of the font is Walkaway. You can find it HERE

I use Walkaway Ultra Expanded....usually bold if it is set up to print or sell. If just for the internet I use the regular...I have found the regular sometimes is a little thin to print properly...you get some bleed over into the very thin white type.

To frame I have an action built in CS3 that adds the three borders around, then I add a large border on the bottom only...another action. Then I crop off the portion I don't use and to make the title basically centered....although an old typesetting rule is to leave a touch more space underneath the line of type than above it. OOPs I forgot the ones I posted in here are without frames and are set up in my For Sale gallery and designed to print borderless...

Several people have asked about my Logo - It is also Walkaway Ultra Expanded for my name and the word Photography was created using Brushstroke Plain and then it was arched on a line in Photoshop on a separate layer then I created two layers for my first and last name and lined them up so the "m" in Jim met up with the "L" in Lucas.

BTW - I almost always use Small caps for the primary title any second line or secondary title I use the standard U/L case.

In my previous life a very long time ago I was a typesetter and then a graphic designer, now I still do some freelance graphic design and web design.

Thanks for asking, I appreciate the interest!

    Enjoy,

    Jim

BTW - Ironically while looking for the site to download Walkaway for you...I found a FREE version of Eurostile Extended....HERE!

    Have fun....

I like your composition, camera location and time of day but for the life of me I cannot understand the level of saturation. I understand that post processing of images is a very personal thing and everyone has their own likes and dislikes. I just think the photographs would have been easier on the eyes if you eased off the saturation.

As you say it is a matter of preference....but I did NOT over saturate these that is the way it was! The red rock is brilliant and until you have been there and seen it, you will not understand...it is as natural as it can be....
