I love your rugby pictures! I went to a couple high school games to try it out after looking at your pictures and have a much better appreciation for how hard it is to capture the guys when they aren't under a pile of other people. I hope you keep posting more!
    Thanks.

Another enjoyable set - but I'm always amazed at why someone would want to put themselves through this!

#6 is the sharpest to my old eyes and love the tackler's determined expression
Really like the moment you have captured in #2 and #3 ... and the poise/balance in #4
I would like #5 a lot more if were sharper to my eyes (and apologies if it is just my eyes are a resizing artifact). This is a classic battle of small-fast-agile player versus awesomely strong/powerful but not so agile bigger player
My opinion does not necessarily make it true. What you do with my opinion is entirely up to you.

Hi Acer, get yer eyes tested ya old buggerrolleyes1.gif. just joking with ya! seariously I can see why you highlighted #5 but there's a forshotened foreground which has the player in Green a bit soft as focus was on the other guy sidestepping him! & your analorgy of the move is spot onthumb.gif

That looks to me to be a high level of play, which would thus have more continuous phases fo play ... whereas most HS kids, esp. those who don't play rugby regularly, tend to be annoyingling sloppy, slow and uninteresting to watch - and capture.

Oh ... ain't that the truth thumb.gif. Trying to shoot junior tennis where neither player can get a serve in is sooooooo painful to watch let alone get something. And then to rub salt into my digital wound, they take forever to start the next point. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh!!!

"old bugger" indeed rolleyes1.gif... and that would be a "SILLY old bugger" to you sir! :ivar

You are correct MP!, these are from Super League in the UK which is the Pinicle of RL = Premier League soccer etc!.
These are of course Rugby League as apposed to Rugby Union (which I'm guessing Anna shot?), open play is more expected in the RL game as the carrier of the ball is classed as tackled when his ball carrying arm hits the ground, ( a bit more like American Football than you might think!), so a large numbers of bodies aren't required as are in Rugby Union where the ball is always "live" so falling down doesn't stop the tackled player just flipping it to a standing team mate! etc.

Sorry Ace, I should have remembered my respect for the infirm & elderly & called you Sir:giggle, I reserve the right to call you silly if you make a stupid comment in future posts:D!. Kind regards Graham.

ps do you cover/watch the Aussie RL SL?

These are very nice! I also shoot my sons high school rugby, and they do play union (big piles of boys). They had a pre season intersquad yesterday, and I'm really rusty. I also may have hurt my 300mm lens when I er, um, er, dropped it a couple months ago - as my keeper rate for in focus shots was pretty low. Then, those that were in focus need help with composition and subject.

I do enjoy watching this sport though. Seems more honest, somehow!

    Hi,
I've only been to two games and they're high school, in California, so I don't know the rules and I'm still amazed at boys being hoisted in the air by their shorts. Here's a couple pictures, totally not as intense as yours. Must practice more. :D

ps do you cover/watch the Aussie RL SL?

RL and RU are pretty minor sports in South Australia, but RL is massive in New South Wales and Queensland. There is also one team in Victoria.

No ... I shoot and follow Aussie Rules football - another version! There are 18 teams spread across the country at the highest level.
Of course everyone thinks their code is the best form of football!
Just spent the day shooting my local footy team so I will post something later in the week. I have got dirt karts tomorrow. Busy weekend ... but I love it thumb.gif

Hi again Anna, these aren't bad at all lady!, I like the low angle which IMHO is a must for field sports! keep postingthumb.gif.

Hi Ace, I look forward to viewing the Aussie rules footy, there's a new Aussie rules team set up nearby to me this Summer so may take a look see when the real Football (Soccer)mwink.gif season finishes in a month or so!, (any shooting pointers greatfully recieved as I have no idea what's going on in that gamerolleyes1.gif). Kind regards Graham.
