If you are looking for a 2.8 lens that is wider than a 35, check this out

Nikon 24 2.8 D in great shape with box. On your D200 it would be like a 35 on a full frame, a great storytelling lens. Really good for taking pictures up close on people, like out at dinner across the table.

The 35mm 2.0D I have is sharp and what you may be looking for, but I wouldn't use it for portraits - more normal view "on the street" type of shooting.

Another lens you might consider and in a similar price range is the 35-70 f/2.8D. Sharp and and on your crop bodies, gives you normal to mild telephoto. Yes, it is an old-style, push-pull zoom, but a compact, fun lens that provides you more options.

All the best in your search...

i'm about to post my 24mm f/2.8 AIS for sale. An amazingly sharp copy, recently serviced and running super-smooth, but has a faint mark on the glass so I'm only asking $150. The mark has ZERO effect on image quality, of course, and like I said this is one very sharp copy of the lens. I have used it for years on both a D700 and a D300, with great results. Love it. Hoping to someday upgrade to the 24 f/2.0 AIS though, so I'm willing to let this one go.

24mm is more of a landscape lens though, if you're looking for a portrait lens at 2.8 "or faster" I'd recommend the 35 1.8 DX or the 35 2.0 FX...

    PM me if interested!
